With the Pikes Peak Cog Railway taking you to the clouds and the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad one of the most exciting train journeys in the world, you will still have three more amazing train trips on this tour. Welcome to Colorado. After arriving in Denver, you are transferred to your hotel, where you will meet your fellow travelers at 5 p.m. for a get-acquainted dinner hosted by your Tour Manager. (Dinner)
Day Two - Colorado Springs - Pikes Peak Cog Railway
This morning we travel to Colorado Springs and see the U.S. Air Force Academy and its famous Cadet Chapel (when available). Next it's on to the stunning Garden of the Gods, a 1,300+ acre park where flora and fauna reflect the rich diversity of the terrain, and red sandstone formations tell a unique geological story. The Garden lies at the base of Pikes Peak, which is our next adventure. "Ride to the Clouds!" aboard the Pikes Peak Cog Railway, the highest cog railroad in the U.S. Stretching nine miles long the cog railway vertically climbs 7,539 feet! (Breakfast and dinner)
Day Three - Royal Gorge Route Railroad
Welcome to Canon City, site of Royal Gorge. Today we enjoy another journey by train aboard the Royal Gorge Railway. The 12-mile route follows the most famous portion of the old Denver and Rio Grande Western train line. We ride through the "Grand Canyon of the Arkansas" on an unforgettable journey over the famous Hanging Bridge, which clings precariously to the steep granite walls of Royal Gorge. This evening we gather for dinner together. (Breakfast and dinner)
Day Four - Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad
Today we'll ride the original Rio Grande Line over the Rockies aboard the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad. This is America's most spectacular narrow gauge steam railroad and it explores 50 miles of wild and rugged territory between Antonito and Cumbres Pass, the highest point on the railroad. We enjoy lunch at Osier as we think of the gold and silver miners as well as the loggers who traveled the same route long ago. (Lunch)
Day Five - Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad Train
It's "full steam ahead" again today as we board the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad. Voted one of the "Top Ten Most Exciting Train Journeys in the World" by the Society of American Travel Writers, this route winds through the spectacular and breathtaking canyons in the remote wilderness of the two-million acre San Juan National Forest. The locomotives used today remain 100% coal-fired, steam-operated and are maintained in their original condition. This evening we gather together for dinner and reflect on our day's adventure. (Breakfast and dinner)
Day Six - Georgetown Loop Railroad
This morning we pass through the spectacular Rocky Mountains as we travel to our last train ride, on the Georgetown Loop Railroad. An 1880s engineering feat, the Devil's Gate High Bridge rises 95 feet above Clear Creek. As we travel over the reconstructed bridge, marvel at the most complex railroad loop in the world. Witness some of Colorado's most breathtaking scenery before arriving in Denver for our next two nights. (Breakfast and dinner)
Day Seven - Denver
Following breakfast we have a city tour of Denver, Capital of Colorado, including the State Capitol Building, Civic Center and much more. The afternoon is yours to explore Denver on own before our farewell dinner. (Breakfast and dinner)
Day Eight - Denver and Home
Following breakfast we say goodbye to Colorado with fond memories of our western railroads adventure. Our 8 a.m. group transfer is to the Denver International Airport for flights out after 12 p.m. (Breakfast)
