The American Queen Steamboat

The American Queen is the glorious flagship of the Majestic America Line fleet. In size and style, she represents the crown jewel of river cruising world-wide, offering for just 436 guests at a time an extraordinary experience of America.

Her 222 staterooms and suites – many with private verandahs – are filled with modern appointments and carefully selected furnishings. Throughout the ship you’ll find finely crafted hardwood fixtures, grand furnishings and gleaming brass details. Of particular note is the J.M. White Dining Room, which pays homage to the legendary vessel that once defined luxury in late 19th-century life.

Other classic features: a gazebo-style pilothouse and towering “feathered” stacks, both designed to be lowered to allow passage under bridges and the opulent two-tiered Grand Saloon, one of the most elegant entertainment spaces on the river. You’ll find modern amenities such as a heated pool and well-equipped athletic club onboard as well. Featuring six decks and measuring 418-feet in length, the American Queen is the world’s largest river cruise ship, powered by a state-of-the-art propulsion system that combines authentic steam engines and a 45-ton paddlewheel with modern diesel-electric Z-drives.

Unique vessel:
Aboard the American Queen, you’ll find a comfortable warm ambiance characterized by polished woods and elegant furnishings. Large picture windows and generous decks bring the outside in, providing ever-changing views. The staterooms and suites – many with private verandahs – are generously proportioned and graced with modern amenities such as comfortable beds, premium linens, and plush towels. Artwork and antiques reflect the regions sailed, from fine collections of period antiques along the Missisissippi to Native America artwork and paintings of Northwest splendor.

Close-up cruising:
Because the ships are highly maneuverable and feature shallow drafts, they are able to explore intriguing places larger ships cannot reach. In Alaska, for instance, this opens up small inlets and narrow fjords to your access. Along the banks of rivers our ships can tuck in close for better views of wildlife, waterfalls, foliage and more, and even deploy their bow ramps to land guests easily ashore. Moreover, your captain has latitude when it comes to the day’s itinerary and can use his considerable experience and superior piloting skills to take you to the day’s best viewing options, depending on weather, wildlife migrations, and fall foliage shows.

Limited Guest List:
Built in America and operated by an American crew, our specially-crafted small ships are not designed to maximize “economies of scale” like the large, foreign-flag cruise liners. They’re designed to give you intimate access to exceptional destinations. Accordingly, you’ll find fewer guests on board: only 436 aboard our grandest ship, the flagship American Queen. As a result you’ll always find a peaceful corner on board, plenty of uncrowded view room up on deck, and no lines when it comes to touring, embarking and disembarking.

Friendly American crew:
Many of the repeat guests say that the friendly, all-American crew is the reason they return time and again. It’s easy to see why. When you walk up on deck in the morning, you’re greeted by name. Begin to feel thirsty – and a beverage magically appears. The staff smiles as they recommend a new wine choice, plump your pillow, or point out a passing sight. They're happy to be here. Just like you.

Fine Dining:
The menus are inspired by regional flavors and traditions. In Alaska, go for the salmon – it's fresh caught in local waters. Sample fried green tomatoes in New Orleans; rise and shine to oatbread in the heartland; uncork a wonderful Washington white at night.

Majestic America Line is working with notable American culinary experts to bring to life a fantastic new dining experience that celebrates the country’s distinct regional flavors. Northwest celebrity chef, author and consultant Kathy Casey, of Kathy Casey Food Studios, has created a line up of signature American dishes with a strong emphasis on utilizing local, fresh, seasonal ingredients. To complement the menu options, evenings begin with "Sara Moulton's American Cocktail Party,” a lively affair featuring uniquely American cocktails and hors d'oeuvres created by Food Network's Sara Moulton.

An eclectic selection of quality American wines will accompany the outstanding culinary fare. Discover distinctive wine choices from the country’s finest winemaking regions – from well known wineries to new labels from boutique vineyards. Every meal in the ships’ dining room will be an event with beautiful new table settings, including fine American artisan china and fresh seasonal floral arrangements inspired by regional landscapes.

Sophisticated entertainment:
Music, song, dance, celebration – these are long-standing traditions of river and coastal cruising. You can practically hear the ship coming down the river at night. Talented onboard entertainers take center stage in the ships’ showrooms after dinner. A jazzy house band offers live music during cocktail hour and for dancing at night. Broadway to blues, ragtime to rock 'n roll – it's hard to keep your toes from tapping when you're having this much fun.

Fascinating shore excursions:
Aboard a Majestic America Line cruise, each day finds you in another fascinating new place. Our shore excursions have been carefully selected to maximize your time in the area. You’ll find a guide or a motorcoach waiting as soon as you disembark. And then it’s off – to discover an imposing fort, a Civil War monument, stately Southern mansions or Alaskan fishing villages.
